Happy Sunday, crafty friends! The Spellbinders March release went live this past week, and they asked me if I'd like to play with anything from The Victorian Garden collection by Susan Tierney Cockburn. I typically avoid these sets or say no because I find them intimidating. But this release included Southern Magnolias, which I fell in love with when visiting my in-laws for the first time in Texas. So I said yes, as long as I could get the Magnolia set...lol!
When it arrived, I looked at it for a moment and put it away. I've watched several of Susan's videos, and what she does is just something I don't feel like I can do. But I pulled them out this weekend with the mindset that it is okay if the magnolias look less realistic and more like paper. And once I got out of that perfectionist, comparative mindset...I absolutely enjoyed putting this card together! I think these magnolias are STUNNING, and they remind me so much of the times I spend with Josh's parents down south.
If you find yourself intimidated by these realistic flower sets, you are not alone. I've given myself permission to use them in the way that works best for you, and I'm extending that on to you! If you want to try your hand at the amazing way that Susan creates her flowers...that is awesome! If you are more like me and need them to be more basic, that is absolutely fine as well. Create the way that works best for you, and in the way that is ENJOYABLE!

FEATURED PRODUCTS - complete supply list, linked to multiple sources.
Here are the instructions on how to create this card:
- Diecut all the floral pieces from white, yellow and green cardstock colors.
- Fluff the petals and layer together as shown.
- Layer the flower middles together, and adhere. Fluff a little bit for some added dimension.
- Accent the middle with an iridescent jewel.
- Foil the sentiment set in matte gold foil to white cardstock, then diecut.
- Dry emboss an A2 white cardstock panel with the Dimensional Diamonds 3D embossing folder, then trim 1/4" from each side.
- Mount to a gray A2 card base with foam tape.
- Arrange the sentiment and florals to the card front, then add the leaves as shown.
- Accent with iridescent jewels to finish.
TIP: I get asked often what I used to create my full sheets of foam adhesive. I cut down sheets of white craft foam to 3.75 x 5 inches for A2 sized cards, then use 5-inch ScorTape to back each side with adhesive. P.S. There is currently a 5% off coupon available on the ScorTape! I don't know how long it will be there, but yay for extra savings!
